3.3 The Voice of the Father
After Moses and Elijah’s appearance and immediately prior to the Father’s exclamation, Peter expresses a desire to remain on the mountaintop, most likely in order to savor the glory and power of Jesus’ transformation (“it is good that we are here”), as well as the presence of Moses and Elijah. Perhaps Peter thought that the time of the kingdom had fully arrived (Davies and Allison 700); if so, he had forgotten Christ’s announcement of the cross. The Father then interrupts Peter (“He was still speaking…”), expresses his love for Jesus, and says, “listen to him!”...
